We are currently seeking a Wildlife Health Communication Specialist. This is a full-time position, up to 37.5 hours per week. Candidates must be able to work a hybrid work schedule in Frankfort, KY.

Job Description:

We are seeking an innovative, creative, and reliable Wildlife Communications Specialist to assist our client with Wildlife Health Communication. This is a grant funded position for up to three years.

LOCATION: 1 Sportsman's Lane, Frankfort, KY 40601

Duties Include but Are Not Limited To:

  • Update the wildlife health communications plan as necessary.
  • Developing wildlife health-related communications for public outreach. This could include news releases, video scripts, brochures, newsletters, e-blasts and graphics.
  • Updating our client’s public facing Wildlife Health webpages with relevant and easy-to-understand content for diverse audiences.
  • Maintain regional network of state and federal partners to share information about disease risk, surveillance efforts, zoonotic disease outbreaks, and regional preparedness.
  • Project management and education campaign design for One Health Initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, natural resources, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Experience in communications, public relations, or marketing preferably for a natural resources or conservation organization.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience with website management via SharePoint.
  • Basic knowledge of HTML; experience with CSS preferred but not required.
  • Experience developing outreach tools and messaging, including translating complex scientific content into accessible formats such as flyers, press releases, and guidance documents, for diverse audiences.
  • Knowledge of AP style.
  • Intermediate skills in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
  • Ability to oversee a communications campaign from start to finish, managing timelines, coordinating deliverables, adapting to shifting priorities, and anticipating communication needs.
  • Works well individually and in a team-based environment.
  • Experience using communication evaluation metrics to improve outreach efforts.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and able to collaborate with partners.
  • Valid U.S. driver's license and clean driving record.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with science and/or health communication to a diverse group of stakeholders. A familiarity with risk communication and applying human dimensions concepts to communication approaches.
