The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for modeling the Compassus values of Compassion, Integrity, Excellence, Teamwork, and Innovation and for promoting the Compassus philosophy, using the 6 Pillars of Success as the foundation. S/he is responsible for upholding the Code of Ethical Conduct and for promoting positive working relationships within the company, among all departments, and all external stakeholders. The Volunteer Coordinator directly supervises volunteers. S/he is responsible for interviewing, hiring, training, and retaining volunteers; planning, assigning, and directing volunteer workload; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining volunteers; and addressing complaints and resolving problems. The Volunteer Coordinator adequately supports volunteer operations and to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations. S/he will ensure the coordination of patient and family needs for volunteer services and will oversee the development and implementation of the plan of care to meet those needs.Position Specific Responsibilities include participating as a member of the interdisciplinary team (IDT), promoting the use of volunteers as an intervention to support patient care needs, actively recruiting, hiring, training, supervising, and retaining volunteers, adhering to human resource policies, ensuring background and health screenings, performing competency evaluations, maintaining records, communicating patient and family needs to IDT, providing education about volunteer services, preparing reports and in-services, utilizing communication means to retain volunteers, delivering high quality training and in-services, managing volunteer services and budget, assigning volunteers, developing public service announcements, performing patient care volunteer roles when needed, and other duties as assigned.Education and/or Experience required includes a high school diploma or GED, with a college degree preferred. Experience in Social Services, Human Services, Resource Management or related field is preferred; prior experience managing volunteer services or non-profit organization is a plus.Skills required include mathematical skills, language skills for reading, writing, and presenting, and other abilities such as understanding English, embracing hospice philosophy, and effective delegation and monitoring.Physical demands include standing, walking, manual dexterity, lifting up to 25 pounds, and visual acuity requirements.
