About the Role:

The Vet Assistant at Great Falls Animal Hospital plays a crucial role in supporting veterinarians and ensuring the well-being of animal patients. This position involves assisting with medical procedures, preparing treatment areas, and providing compassionate care to animals during their visits. The Vet Assistant will be responsible for maintaining a clean and organized environment, managing supplies, and facilitating communication between pet owners and veterinary staff. This role requires a strong commitment to animal welfare and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced clinical setting. Ultimately, the Vet Assistant contributes significantly to the smooth operation of the hospital and the delivery of high-quality veterinary care.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience or training in animal care or veterinary assistance.
• Ability to handle animals safely and compassionately.
• Basic knowledge of veterinary terminology and procedures.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Certification as a Veterinary Assistant or completion of a related training program.
• Experience working in a veterinary clinic or animal hospital setting.
• Familiarity with medical record-keeping software.
• Ability to perform basic laboratory tests and diagnostic procedures.
• CPR and first aid certification for animals.
• Cornerstone experience a plus!

Responsibilities:

• Assist veterinarians during examinations, treatments, and surgeries by handling animals and preparing necessary equipment.
• Monitor and record vital signs and behavior of animals before, during, and after procedures.
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of treatment rooms, kennels, and medical instruments to ensure a safe environment.
• Manage inventory of medical supplies and notify supervisors when restocking is needed.
• Communicate effectively with pet owners by providing updates, answering basic questions, and offering guidance on animal care.

Skills:

The required skills enable the Vet Assistant to provide hands-on support during medical procedures and ensure animal comfort and safety. Effective communication skills are essential for interacting with pet owners and veterinary staff, facilitating clear and compassionate information exchange.
