Job Summary

Seeking a Mid-level Structural Designer. Responsible for reviewing design documents, applying industry standards, and leading small teams on structural projects. Requires 3+ years of experience in structural design for refining or petrochemical industries. Must have experience with AutoCAD, Navisworks, 3D modeling, and Smart Plant 3D. LNG project experience is a plus. Ability to guide less experienced designers and collaborate across departments is essential.

Job Description

• Reviews the work of designers developing documents as needed for the project.
• Acts independently to utilize industry and company standards to design effectively.  No supervision required to apply standard correctly to design.
• Reviews application of standards and can make suggestions on improvements needed
• Review vendor documentation and comment as it applies to client and project needs.
• Complete as-builts by utilizing Request for Information (RFIs), Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) and red-marked drawings from construction.
• Communicates effectively with supervisor and members of immediate department.
• Works collaboratively across departments and involves others in solving problems.
• Provides guidance, leadership and training to less experienced structural designers.
• Leads small team to complete task/design on project.
• Supports project teams and departments in a positive and productive manner. Works well with other to accomplish common goals and objectives.
• Serves as technical resource to engineers, designers and construction.
• Participated hands-on in the design phase, including FEED and EPC execution.

Skills Required  

• 10 years of experience in structural design, including 3D modeling with structural software and developing structural steel, concrete, and foundation drawings.
• Structural modeling experience using Smart 3D (S3D), formerly known as SmartPlant SP3D, is required.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD is required.
• LNG project experience is a plus.
• Experience with structural design 3D modeling software is required (e.g., Revit, CADWorx, PDMS).
• Experience utilizing a computer-aided drafting program (AutoCAD, Navisworks) and knowledge of the latest computer operating systems.
• Thorough understanding of spreadsheets and databases.
• Knowledge of 3D modeling and Smart Plant 3D is a must.

Education/Training/Certifications

• Associate degree or High School diploma + 2 years’ experience as a minimum.
