Happier People. Better World." to develop a high-performing team that delivers top-line sales growth while maintaining animal welfare and proper care. The GM leads a team of Pet Care Center managers, leaders and partners and is accountable for all aspects of managing a single Pet Care Center. The role focuses on people (talent acquisition, training and development), performance (guest service, sales, and expense control), and process (standard operating procedures and policies), resulting in profitability. This position requires passion for pets, ability to inspire and lead, focus on process excellence, and a drive for results. Responsibilities Position Responsibilities The GM regularly exercises discretion and independent judgment to create the best possible partner, guest, and pet experience. As a leader of people and pet care, the GM should execute all tasks skillfully and consistently. Train, coach, and develop leaders and hourly partners in all areas required to run the store efficiently and to Petco standards, including the effective rollout selling models. Ensure quick and courteous service to all guests by helping partners determine needs and sharing product knowledge to enable appropriate solutions. Responsible for all partner performance management in the Pet Care Center. Demonstrate and support a continuous improvement and growth mindset. Performance Meet or exceed goals related to total Pet Care Center sales, profitability, and operational excellence. Schedule and adjust labor hours and payroll to maximize productivity and achieve sales and payroll goals. Review and interpret financial and operational reporting regularly, including visits and audit results. Identify underperforming metrics and develop strategies to improve and grow the business with Petco programs and resources. Market the Pet Care Center and its products; oversee on-site and community events such as adoptions, school visits and local promotions and animal-welfare events. Process Ensure proper health, appearance, welfare and handling of all animals. Ensure merchandise is properly priced, displayed and stocked; make merchandising decisions aligned with inventory and ad planner guidelines. Complete and submit accounting, inventory management and payroll paperwork; keep expenses within budgeted levels. Maintain the Pet Care Center’s appearance and safety procedures. Protect pets and merchandise and minimize loss by meeting standards and procedures, including safety, inventory control and loss prevention. Open/close the Pet Care Center in accordance with policies and safety. Maintain professional image, appearance, and cleanliness. Education and Experience High school diploma or GED; proficiency in basic business and finance, analysis, problem solving, and people development & guest service. Excellent communication and computer skills. Three or more years of management experience; retail management preferred. Working knowledge of general business practices and strong organizational skills. Aptitude for strong customer service and ability to instruct others; professional appearance and genuine interest in animals. Must be licensed to operate a motor vehicle. Completion of PETCO Management Achievement Program modules may be required for internal candidates.
