The Medical Interpreter coordinates and delivers both verbal and written language interpretation for patient, families, and caregivers. This position will work Mondays from 8:00-12:00, and Saturdays & Sundays from 8:30-17:00, with schedule changes possible depending on volumes. Responsibilities include providing complete and accurate interpretation in-person, over video or telephone; using communication methods appropriate for patient developmental age and mental condition; assisting with sight translation of forms; demonstrating cultural sensitivity and unbiased interpretation; adhering to professional ethics and standards including relevant laws and policies; managing time productively and responding promptly to requests; coordinating interpretation assignments and keeping accurate records; using computer and internet tools for work purposes; and possibly providing translation services with high accuracy. Minimum qualifications include successful completion of a pre-hire skills assessment and a 40-hour Professional Medical Interpreting Course or equivalent qualifications, excellent oral and written command of both languages, ability to perform various interpretation methods accurately, proficiency in medical terminology, and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. Preferred qualifications include a Bachelor's Degree, national or Utah certification as a Medical Interpreter, experience as a professional medical interpreter, and completion of a medical terminology course.
