Job Requirements Starting Pay Range: $20.00 to $25.00 hourly ** Part time (as needed)
Under the general supervision of the Chief Judge, Court Clerk and Presiding Judge, perform supervision of adults placed on probation by the Oneida Indian Nation Court on a part-time/as-needed basis. Work involves regularly meeting with probationers to ensure compliance with terms of probation and maintaining records of probationers' activities and status. Responsible for determining level of supervision necessary for individual probationers, providing support, referring clients to probation assistance programs, and conferring with the Oneida Indian Nation Prosecutor, Police Department and court personnel in matters pertaining to violation of probation by clients.
What does a Probation Officer do? - Provides close supervision of assigned probationers; establishes reporting schedule; meets with probationers to discuss progress.
- Monitors probationers' progress with court orders; evaluates probationer progress via visits to home and verifying employment; investigates alleged violations of probation, community service assignments and secures remedial action by court if necessary.
- Appears and testifies in court regarding probationers' compliance with court ordered probation obligations; make appropriate recommendations on sentencing and probation revocation dispositions.
Work Experience To be successful as a Probation Officer, you'll need: - Bachelors or Associates degree in corrections, sociology, social work, criminology, psychology or closely related field.
- At least 2 years of experience as a probation officer or similar role.
- Ability to communicate with program members in order to obtain relevant information, communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, follow written and verbal instruction, prioritize tasks, and establish and maintain effective working relationship with fellow employees and public.
- Knowledge of the criminal justice system, courts, and probation-related theories, principles, laws, case law, and operations
- Ability to stand/walk for long periods of time and lift up to 10 lbs.
