Perform central pharmacy staffing functions including order verification, dispensing, and distribution activities, with evening coverage to support safe and efficient inpatient operations. Serve as the point person for code trays and anesthesia/OR inventory management (including but not limited to pyxis optimization) by conducting daily drug distribution to critical areas, conducting prospective narcotic audits, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory and quality standards. Review, investigate, and document narcotic discrepancies daily; prepare weekly reports for director of pharmacy to ensure accurate and timely resolution. Oversee the disposition process for all expired or damaged pharmaceuticals, ensuring proper documentation, regulatory compliance, and safe removal from inventory. Support medication distribution processes through actively managing Pyxis (i.e., loading meds, outdates), checking cart fills, and optimization of inventory levels to meet patient care needs. Monitor and trend daily reports of patients' own medications, acting to address and prevent therapy interruptions and ensure continuity of care during hospitalization. Conduct prospective and retrospective reviews of opioid prescribing and administration to identify opportunities for intervention and quality improvement. Partner with IV room pharmacists to ensure adherence to USP standards, media fill testing, and competency requirements. Routinely report to the Director of Pharmacy (DOP) on staff compliance with sterile and nonsterile compounding processes, ensuring adherence to USP standards, patient safety requirements, and all applicable regulatory guidelines. Collaborate with the Investigational Drug Service when needed to assist in preparation and accountability of investigational medications. Provide staffing coverage, work every 4th weekend evening, and on-call as needed, supporting key functions such as order entry, IV room operations, and participation in departmental projects (e.g., drug use evaluations [DUE]) and initiatives aligned with patient care goals. Routinely staff minimum of 3 evening shifts per week, works every 4th weekend (evening shifts), 1 summer holiday, 1 winter holiday.
Recruitment Requirements: Prior experience in an acute care hospital or healthcare system preferred. Ability to work rotating day & evening shifts, including weekends and holidays. Completion of an ASHP-accredited residency desirable but not required.
License and Regulatory Requirements: Graduate of an accredited school of pharmacy with an entry-level pharmacy degree (B.Sc. or Pharm.D.). Pennsylvania pharmacist licensure in good standing (or eligibility for licensure). One hour of annual stroke education.
