Job Description

Cardiology Clinic is a fast-paced multi-disciplinary clinic located at the Ashley River Tower (ART). Patient centered care team members working with cardiology, CT surgery, Vascular surgery and Transplant patients. We see about 600-700 patients a week so it’s busy, but fun. We have a great team dynamic and believe in working together to make the best patient experience possible. The Certified Medical Assistant reports to the Outpatient Clinic Manager. Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, the Certified Medical Assistant performs multi-skilled activities to support a decentralized patient-centered approach to patient care and achieve desired outcomes. The Patient Care Technician (PCT) reports to the Nurse Manager. Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, the PCT performs multi-skilled activities to support a decentralized patient-centered approach to patient care and achieve desired outcomes. Minimum Training and Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of an accredited medical assisting program with one year of patient care experience preferred. Basic computer skills required. Annual competencies are required to be maintained. Possess ability to understand and implement a variety of detailed instructions in the execution of therapeutic procedures and ability to make accurate physical observation of patients. Failure to abide by MUHA policies are subject to disciplinary action, including termination. Employee must possess considerable knowledge of basic medical terminology and human anatomy; ability to understand and implement a variety of detailed instructions in the execution of complex therapeutic procedures; and ability to make accurate physical observation of patients. Must communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: Must be certified through the American Medical Technologist (AMT) or American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or National Health career Association (NHA) or MedCA as a Certified Clinical & Administrative Medical Assistant (MA1), or National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP), or National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT). Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider. Minimum Requirements: Education: A high school diploma or equivalent (GED) required. Experience: One year of patient care work experience in a health care facility, Certified Nursing Assistant, EMT or Paramedic certification, Bachelor’s Degree or enrollment in a healthcare related program with successful completion of a Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, or Nursing Fundamentals course at an accredited institution or equivalent training preferred. Credentials: Basic Life Support required within 2 weeks of hire. Thereafter, must maintain. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required. Physical Requirements: Ability to perform job functions while standing, sitting, walking continuously; ability to climb stairs infrequently; ability to work indoors continuously and outside in temperature extremes infrequently; ability to work from elevated areas frequently and in confined/cramped spaces frequently; ability to perform job functions from kneeling positions infrequently; ability to bend and twist at the waist frequently; ability to squat and perform job functions frequently; ability to perform pinching operations frequently; ability to perform gross motor activities with fingers and hands continuously; ability to perform firm grasping and fine manipulation with fingers and hands continuously; ability to reach overhead frequently and in all directions continuously; ability to perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders continuously; ability to fully use both legs continuously and use lower extremities for balance and coordination frequently; ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. unassisted infrequently; ability to exert up to 50 lbs. of force frequently; ability to maintain 20/40 vision corrected continuously; ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance continuously; ability to match or discriminate between colors continuously; ability to determine distance/relationship between objects and depth perception continuously; good peripheral vision capabilities continuously; ability to maintain hearing acuity with correction continuously; ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements continuously; ability to deal effectively with stressful situations continuously; ability to work rotating shifts and overtime as required frequently; ability to work in a latex safe environment continuously; ability to maintain tactile sensory functions continuously; selected positions require good olfactory sensory function and qualification for respirator use.
