POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Compliance is a strategic leader within the People Resources department, reporting to the VP of People Practices. This role is responsible for developing and executing scalable and sustainable programs that support people compliance matters across the organization. Acting as a trusted advisor to leaders, this position delivers proactive HR solutions, ensures regulatory alignment, and supports a culture of ethical behavior, accountability, and respectful employee engagement.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

General Responsibilities
  • Partner with business leaders to understand organizational priorities and align HR compliance strategies accordingly.
  • Design, implement, operationalize, and maintain HR compliance programs and policies that mitigate risk and ensure adherence to legal and regulatory requirements across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Identify areas of compliance vulnerability and risk; recommend and implement corrective actions.
  • Interpret, communicate, and train stakeholders on relevant laws, regulations, and internal policies, including federal, state, provincial, and local labor laws.
  • Monitor changes in employment law (e.g., wage and hour, leave of absence, pay transparency, EEO, DEI mandates, OSHA, ADA, FMLA, and union regulations) and proactively adjust policies and practices to ensure compliance.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with Legal, Risk, and Internal Audit teams to ensure consistency and completeness in compliance practices.
  • Develop and oversee the internal audit calendar for HR-related processes, including I-9s, wage statements, personnel file compliance, and background check protocols.
  • Establish and manage HR compliance training programs, including anti-harassment, ethics, FLSA classifications, and accommodation processes.
  • Lead enterprise-wide policy management and version control process; ensure policies are accessible, up to date, and appropriately communicated.
  • Support regulatory compliance for immigration programs (e.g., J-1, H-2B, and other visa categories), including coordination with external counsel and government agencies.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • 8+ years of progressive HR experience, with demonstrated strength in employee relations and compliance
  • Strong working knowledge of employment laws, HR policy development, and compliance procedures
  • Ability to think strategically with an enterprise mindset and implement tactical solutions
  • Advanced project management skills and a strong track record of program execution
  • Skilled in analyzing data to inform decision-making and drive improvements
  • Sound judgment, integrity, and the ability to build trusted relationships at all levels of the organization
  • Professional/lived experience in a culturally competent manner to a diverse range of audiences and new/emerging markets, including to underrepresented communities.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (Master's degree or JD preferred)
The base salary range below represents the low and high end of the Alterra Mtn Co Shared Services Inc. salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to experience, education, training, location, merit system, quantity or quality of production, responsibilities, and regular and/or necessary travel. The range listed is just one component of the Company's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term and long-term incentives and many region-specific benefits.

Denver area base salary range: $127,000 - $184,000 per year
