About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Controller to oversee all aspects of our company’s accounting operations and financial reporting in a Manufacturing environment. This would be a full-time, permanent position based out of Burton, Michigan. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, attention to detail, and the ability to provide accurate and timely financial information to support strategic decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete daily banking and issue AP checks weekly.
  • Prepare all monthly, quarterly, and annual payroll tax filings and statements.
  • Ensure accurate and timely closing of close accounting JE’s, bank recons, and inventory calculations through financial statements each month.
  • Oversee 401(k) plan. Prepare annual wage information for 401k plan and review 401k testing.
  • Prepare all documents necessary to support completion of annual financial statement review.
  • Oversee business insurance (workers compensation, fixed assets & liability) including renewals.
  • Oversee employee insurances (health, disability, and life).
  • Supervise and develop one HR employee and one AP/AR/Invoicing/payroll employee.
  • Oversee banking relationships, payroll, and computer systems & software by working with outside IT consultant.
  • Complete ESA, Ohio CAT, and heavy highway quarterly/annual reporting.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly production reports.
  • Review production and work with plant managers to order rollstock paper.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly production information spreadsheets.
  • Prepare periodic USPS reporting for recycled content and subcontractor purchases.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master’s or CPA preferred).
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a management or Controller role.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
  • Experience with Amtech/Imaginera accounting systems a bonus.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • High integrity, sound judgment, and a commitment to confidentiality.

Requirements

  • Experience in manufacturing, distribution, or service industry environments.
  • Prior involvement in process improvement or system implementations.
  • CPA certification or public accounting background.
