Under general supervision, performs mechanical and cosmetic repairs on customer and internal CarMax vehicles in accordance with all standards described in the CarMax Certified Quality Inspection Process and the Retail Repair Process. Additionally, performs all customer contact functions during repairs as defined by CarMax “Voice of Customer” processes, orders and maintains parts and supply inventories and properly uses and maintains all CarMax Tools and Equipment to support the store operations. Duties include executing CarMax Standardized work, engine repair, advancing engine performance and drivability, electrical systems repair, manual drive train and axle repair, brake diagnosis and repair, steering and suspension repairs including 4-wheel alignments, heating and air conditioning repair, inspecting vehicles per CarMax Quality Standards, maintaining workplace cleanliness and organization, maintaining, repairing, and cleaning shop equipment, interacting with customers in a friendly, service oriented manner, consulting with service customers regarding needed repairs, reviewing repair orders for accuracy, closing and invoicing repair orders, explaining all recommendations/repairs/service/maintenance performed, collecting service payments and managing cash, locating and receiving shipments of parts, receiving parts into inventory, maintaining parts inventory, controlling service supplies to minimize waste. Additional responsibilities may include providing general support to store operations to maintain vehicle inventory and meet quality standards, supporting sales by helping to assess vehicle condition during the condition assessment process, prepping sold vehicles for delivery, receiving and processing vehicles being transferred into or out of inventory, and coordinating handling of vehicles with on lot and off lot sublet vendors when needed work cannot be performed in house. Job specifications require ability to complete New Associate Orientation Training, Kronos Training for Hourly Associates, Refrigerant Recycling License, maintaining ASE Certifications where required, reading and interpreting data, performing multiple duties in a high-energy environment, lifting up to 50 pounds, demonstrating attention to detail and manual dexterity, monitoring shop compliance with CarMax, O.S.H.A., and EPA standards, and demonstrating exceptional interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills. Working conditions include a combination of office and outdoor environments, possible exposure to noisy and/or inclement weather conditions, walking or standing for extended periods, flexible work hours including nights, weekends, and holidays, wearing CarMax clothing, and adherence to all CarMax, O.S.H.A., and EPA standards and policies.
