Job Description

Abel and Reed LLC is a privately owned small business which focuses its practice in family and criminal law. We are looking to expand our law firm with the addition of a versatile associate attorney. No experience is required as we are willing to train a new graduate. The associate attorney will be expected to work on complex legal work in both family and criminal law cases. This includes preparing legal documents, litigation and mediation, preparing drafts, and analyzing and reviewing documents in relation to assigned cases. This position also handles adoptions, divorce/custody matters, guardian ad litem, CHINS cases, and represents and advises clients on diverse legal matters.

Responsibilities:

What You’ll Do:

  • Provide legal advice, support, and assistance relative to each client’s individual case.
  • Litigates cases for both family and criminal law matters in Vigo County courts and surrounding areas.
  • Organizes and manages caseload in preparation for hearings and/or litigation.
  • Generates appropriate pleadings, motions, discovery, and responses for each individual case.
  • Delegates to and provides support for any legal support staff.
  • Stay updated on relevant law, regulations and evolving developments in both family and criminal law.

What You’ll Bring:

  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school
  • An active member in good standing with the licensure to practice law in Indiana

Qualifications:

Minimum Work Experience/ Educational Requirements:

  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school
  • An active member in good standing in Indiana 

Physical Requirements/Work Environment:

  • General office conditions
  • Sitting for extended periods utilizes close visual acuity for working with computers, etc.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation
